Summer School in China 2011  On 3-14 July 2011 CATRC members Alina Ishaleyeva and Meruyert Assilova, LL.M students of KIMEP, attended International Summer Tax School at Peking National University, Beijing, China. This School was aimed at improving knowledge of graduate and postgraduate students in the sphere of international taxation. The lectures covered various topics related to international tax including but not limited to “jurisdiction to tax, international double taxation, international tax avoidance and anti-avoidance rules, five main elements of international tax agreements”. They were delivered by well-known tax professional Kees van Raad, who is a professor of law at the University of Leiden and chairman of the International Tax Center Leiden, Netherlands. “Among all the opportunities to develop tax knowledge CATRC offered this summer I chose Peking Tax School and I am happy I did it! It was a really great trip - besides sound knowledge in international tax issues covered I also got cultural nourishment by experiencing China”- said Meruyert. Two members of CATRC were able to attend International Summer Tax School free of charge as a result of a mutual cooperation between Peking National University from Chinese side and CATRC in cooperation with KIMEP from Kazakhstani side. On 16-17 June 2011 CATRC Team successfully held first round of China-Kazakhstan Tax Forum, the main purposes of which were to carry out com
 parative research, to explore and analyze various tax aspects and concepts similar but still unique to each of two tax systems. Furthermore, another goal is to build grounds for further cooperation in research findings, so to continue the mutual research and cooperation it is planned to hold second round of China-Kazakhstan Tax forum in Beijing in the nearest future, October 2011. “I am very grateful to our Chinese friends for inviting us to take part in Summer Tax School, without doubts it was a great experience both in getting valuable knowledge in sphere of international taxation delivered by one of best specialists working in this area as well as exploring a new culture” –said Alina.
